Our last get together with Laura and Spencer (Pen-sa!) before we left for the summer was a trip to the berry patch near where Laura grew up outside Charlottesville. We left early, which turned out to be a good plan because it was hot!!
The place was lovely, nestled at the base of the mountains.
We met Laura's mom, sister, and sister's boyfriend, and I attempted to teach Sierra how to pick blueberries and put them in the basket.
She definitely figured out how to pick them, but as far as putting them in the basket ... well ... (At least she was sharing?)
When we had picked all the berries we wanted, we headed to Laura's mom's house, and then to a neighbor's farm to see goats, chickens, and alpacas (which Sierra called llamas. Close enough, I suppose).
Then it was back to Laura's mom's house. We played in the backyard for a little while where Sierra and Spencer explored the club house
and tried out the zip line!
My fearless little explorer headed off into the woods for a bit.
But we called her back because it was time for a blueberry pancake brunch. Yum!
Have you ever read “Blueberries for Sal”? Do you own “Blueberries for Sal”? If not you need to. It is a Maine classic. I may need to send a care package off to Montana!
