Oktoberfest

Ah, Oktoberfest! Doesn't that word just make you think of

Beer and bratwurst?

Lederhosen and dirndls? (Photo credit: Monica! Hi Monica! Hope you don't mind that I pilfered your photo!)

Blow-up bounce houses and hayrides?

(insert screeching record stop sound here) Wait! What? Bounce houses and hayrides? What do bounce houses and hayrides have to do with Oktoberfest?! Honestly, I'm not sure, but that's how Ruckersville defines Oktoberfest and we were more than happy to enjoy the fun with some of our toddler friends, including a church friend we hadn't seen since before we went to Montana this summer!
The crew
It was a lovely fall day, sunny but crisp and breezey. It was a nice relief after it was so hot and muggy just two days before! (though you wouldn't know it were so cool if you were using Laura's short sleeves and flip flops as an indicator of the weather!)

Ruckersville Oktoberfest had a pile of hay for climbing

with a "fast slide" for getting back down. Sarah managed to sweep up Sophia moments before a collision occured!
There were those blow-up bounce houses that I mentioned,
including some blow-up slides. This one was the favorite. Spencer shows how it's done.
Now Tommy.
And Sierra goes backwards!
One slide was super tall and Sierra climbed all the way to the top and came down on her own.

The second time, she climbed all the way to the top, took her shoes off at the top and then slid down sans shoes. Naturally, I couldn't convince her to go back to the top to get them, and it was time for the hayride (which they were holding for us!) so I had to climb up myself to retrieve the shoes. (I did not go down the slide. I climbed back down. I would have gone down the slide, but there was a human attached to me at the time and I didn't want to slip or flip and squish her. Probably a good parenting decision on my part.) With Sierra and I both at the bottom of the slide again, I hefted her under my arm, football style, and trucked it to the hayride just before it left. Phew!
Me and my girls(the part of Kaia is being played by "hat sticking out of a wrap")

Lorae and her girls
Megan and her girl
Sarah and her girl
(that's a lot of girls)

And Shannon and her guy, plus Laura's little dude
The Woodberry crew left after that and Megan and I stuck around for bit and had a picnic before parting ways. We're going to make a point to not go 5 months without seeing each other this time!!

For more on the day, you can visit Sarah.

  1. I feel like a celebrity. =) You're so good at taking pictures while toting around a little one and chasing after another one.
