We left Virginia at 6am and drove all day, stopping in Indianapolis for the evening. We got up at 4:30 Saturday morning and finished our trip to northern Illinois. Luckily, we got there early enough in the day that Jason and I were able to pass Sierra off to her grandparents so we could take a nap when Kaia did.
When I got up, I whipped up some candy for the party later. That evening, my parents hosted a pre-Christmas party with my dad's side of the family. Our family tradition is chili on Christmas eve. My parents are the usual hosts, but since we will be in St. Louis this year for Christmas, they moved the party up to the Saturday before.
Sunday morning, we were up too early to go to my sister's church an hour away because my niece was singing in the children's service. Afterward, it was on to brunch with my sister's future in-laws.
Home again, we had an uneventful afternoon before heading out to have dinner at Will and Kate's. Kate and I ran cross country together in high school, and they have three little girls. Sierra had an awesome time with the older two, who are 5 and almost-3-years-old, and Kaia tried her best to keep up with the big girls. The baby of the group is just 3 weeks old, so she mostly slept, and made squeaky baby noises. They were quite the pile of girls!!
(I'll have to post some pictures of that outing later.)
I managed to get a run in this morning, and then Jason and I had an hour without the girls to explore some of the shop in down town Galena. We're soon to head out to see my niece's school Christmas program and then we're looking forward to an evening with nothing on the horizon.
*cough* nothing but CHAOS!
