Once, there was snow

It has been a sad, sad winter here in north central Virginia.  Well, at least for those of use who actually like winter.  We've had very little snow and a whole lot of very non-winter like temperatures.  While I have tried very hard to just embrace and enjoy the lovely weather, my heart wishes for crisp temperatures, the cloud of my breath in the morning, and a few inches of fluffy, white snow to freshen the landscape like a fresh coat of paint.

Toward the beginning of January, we did get a little teaser of a snowfall.  Just a bit that stuck to the ground for a couple days.  It wasn't particularly impressive as far as snowfall goes; the grass was still visible where the trees protected the ground from the snowfall.  But it was snow, so we bundled up and went out to enjoy it.

It was nice, sticky snowman-making snow.  And even with less than an inch of snow, my winter-loving husband was able to eek out a snowman with his girls that was taller than Kaia.  

Jason and the girls were out playing and I had come back inside when Sierra appeared at the back door.  

"I need a carrot." 

Me:  "You need a carrot?  To eat?" 

Sierra: "No!  For the snowman's nose." 

Me: "You made a snowman?!"

Sierra: "Yes, me and Daddy did it."  

Sure enough.  Snowman!  I was impressed!
