We had so much at the organic tulip farm in Madison, VA last year that we gathered up some of our friends and headed out for another outing this year.
We brought lunch and had a picnic lunch on the grounds and then the kids couldn't resist climbing on the hay bales on the lawn.
Everyone was trying to climb up at the same time!
Even more fun than climbing up? Jumping off!
These are two very serious 1-year-olds. Do not mess with them.
We tried to get a group photo. Greta was out before everyone was even in the shot.
There goes another one! Come back! We're taking a picture!
She's back. This one's not too bad.
The Tulip Man came by to explain to us how to pick and then we got started. Wow! Barely organized chaos! The kids were all really excited about the tulips, but toddlers and preschoolers are not necessarily the most careful pickers of tulips you've ever met. Someone suggested that next year maybe the moms should all go and leave the small ones at home.
Still, regardless of all the "No, don't pull off the flower, pull up the stem!" and "Pick over here, you're not allowed to pick those!" we had a great time. Sierra actually got the hang of it pretty quickly.
Kaia did okay, but only with a lot direct supervision.
Notice the one in Kaia hand doesn't have a stem? Oops! We did get a discount since we came as a group, so I didn't mind paying for a few "blanks" in exchange for a good time!
Sierra with her tulips all wrapped up and ready to go!
