The family of one of Sierra's preschool classmates live and work at a place called Summer Duckwood. They raise horses and dogs and have a beautiful garden. The preschoolers were invited out for a field trip. The field trip was rescheduled once because of heavy rain that left the ground quite muddy, and then, on the make-up day it was drizzly and cool but we made the best of it.
Sierra was hanging with the boys waiting for things to get started.
Then Sophia showed up, and Sierra went running off to greet her, the boys no longer existed in her mind!
We are hearing about how search and rescue dogs are trained, but I think Sierra is a little bummed out by the weather. She does not look like a happy camper.
It was pretty cool to see the dog find someone who was completely hidden.
The house at Summer Duckwood had an outdoor shower, and the kids were amazed by the novelty of it.
Fountains are just as fun as showers!
I had just recently received my new camera, so I had a good time trying it out, taking pictures of flowers in the gardens.
For the next part of the day, each child got a pot with his or her name on it. They decorated them with foam stickers, filled them with potting soil and chose weather they wanted to plant a tomato or a flower.
We finished the day learning about the horses. The kids were thrilled to meet Shadow, but the weather prevented us from riding a pony as was originally planned.
We rode hay bales with saddles instead.
And finally, the kids got to feed some hay to the horses before having lunch themselves and heading home.
