Sierra's first dance recital fell on the same day as Woodberry's graduation this year. We missed the graduation ceremony, but we headed up for the pre-ceremony mingling and to say good bye to our advisees.
Before the actual graduation began, the girls and I were off to Charlottesville for the recital. Jason, meanwhile, attended the graduation ceremony and then left immediately after with Sophia's dad, and the guys made it to the recital just in time!
Backstage was really crazy with all the dancers in their groups getting ready for the performance, but the parent in charge of Sierra's class had clearly "been there, done that." She came prepared with blankets for the floor and a pile of coloring books and boxes of crayons!
The performance started with a series of dances performed by the more seasoned dancers. All them together told the "Alice in Wonderland" story, and we really enjoyed it!
Then it was time for the individual classes to perform their numbers. Sierra, who is not normally very shy, was a little bit like a deer in the headlights in front of all those people. These little dancers are just too cute for words. At this stage, they are definitely not dancing together and whether they remember the steps at all is kind of hit or miss, but it was beyond enjoyable simply for the sheer adorable of it all!
The grand finale involved all the dancers in the show on stage together for a final bow!
