The National Zoo

It's almost November, and I'm still playing catch up with our August happenings.  I don't know if I shall ever be caught up again.  I really need to emulate Sarah and post the day after something happens!  She already has photos from Friday's Woodberry kids' Halloween festivities up over in her space.  You can catch a glimpse of Sierra in her tinkerbell costume if you click over.  You might see it by Christmas around here!

At the end of August, we took the girls up to DC to visit the National Zoo.

Mr. and Mrs. Lion were trying to conserve their energy in the heat.

Same goes for the other big cats, but the girls liked seeing them nonetheless.

On this day, the reptile house was a big hit.  Sierra even made up a song about a Komodo dragon on the way home.  (I no longer remember how it went, but I am amused that of all the animals we saw that day, she picked the Komodo Dragon to sing about.)

Jason is not a fan of snakes, but he was okay with the ones behind the glass and was teaching Sierra about how to tell if a snake is poisonous.

This is a big iguana, but there is an even bigger one above our heads on a branch.

I thought the long necked turtles were pretty cool.

Kaia loved (LOVED!) the elephant.  We saw it first from a lower vantage point, across from where this photo was taken.  Then, we saw it from a viewing point above.  I was holding Kaia so that she could see and Jason came to stand next to us.  Kaia grabbed him around the neck and pointed his head in the direction of the elephant exclaiming, "Daddy.  Wook!  Elephant!"

The panda had just eaten lunch before we arrived and were settled in for a nice long nap!

Cheese face!
